out of place
for Group Exhibition at Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin, 2022
out of place by Lua Ray (Luisa Voita) explores the unknown within the familiar. The series captures moments, scenes, and objects that disrupt expectations, prompting the viewer to pause and ponder their hidden stories. Found and collected along the way, everyday observations become visual questions.
The work was created in collaboration with Ina Schoenenburg during a seminar at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie and was exhibited as part of the group show IM MOMENT at Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin, in August 2022. The photographs combine documentary observation with a conceptual approach, revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary.
out of place invites the viewer to see the world anew
− finding the unfamiliar in the familiar.

Where and how do I find the extraordinary that other people should also experience? Does what was true yesterday still hold today? Or will it be completely different tomorrow? The result of Ina Schoenenburg’s seminar is a strange, as well as surprising collection of visual statements about encounters on balmy summer evenings, irritating objects found along the way, of a past that is gone, of goths, the B93, of piles and numbers, and of adolescents in transition to adulthood.
